Emergency care home in Wales
Wales has its own statute, its own weekly cap on residential care charges, and its own inspectorate. Here is the Welsh emergency picture.
The short answer. Wales operates under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014. Local authorities have an emergency duty broadly equivalent to England's s.19. The upper capital limit is £50,000 (2026/27), the highest in the UK. There is also a weekly cap on the charge a council can make for non-residential domiciliary care. Call NHS 111 Wales or the local authority duty desk.

Frequently asked
Why is the Welsh capital limit higher than England's?
Welsh Government policy on care charging. The £50,000 limit means more people qualify for council-funded care than in England (where it remains £23,250).
Is there a Welsh equivalent of CHC Fast Track?
Yes - Continuing NHS Healthcare in Wales uses a National Framework with a Fast Track route for rapidly deteriorating end-of-life cases.
Do Welsh councils have an out-of-hours emergency duty team?
Yes. Every local authority in Wales has an Emergency Duty Team for evenings and weekends. The number is on each council website.
